LINER NOTES

= THE PINK PANTHER =

HENRY MANCINI is one of the most talented fellows one could wish to meet. He has made quite a name for himself. That of Mancini, to be exact, and very famous in the bargain. But lest I be thought guilty of gross flattery, I feel I should point out that in private life he can be rather difficult. I once pointed this out to him and he kicked my shin. A lot of his music has been issued in the form of long-playing records. The great advantage of this is that you can sit and listen to Hank's score without having to sit through the film. As yet, you cannot see the film without having to sit through the music. However, I understand that scientists are perfecting a device that may make this possible.

Now then - about the music on this record.

THE PINK PANTHER THEME. This is the theme music from the film of the same name. It was called "THE SAME NAME." An excellent film, but not quite as good as "THE PINK PANTHER."

CHAMPAGNE AND QUAIL. This is the bow music of that famous vaudeville act, Bert Shampayne and Fred Quale. How can we ever forget them!

ROYAL BLUE. This is the colour that Royal people get when they are old. They are often accompanied by music to get blue to.

IT HAD BETTER BE TONIGHT (MEGLIO STASERA). As this is sung partly in Italian I had best make no comment because I am unable to speak that particular language, and anyway it sounds rather naughty to me.

THE VILLAGE INN. Or IN THE VILLAGE. Or VILLAGE INN IN THE VILLAGE IN. Or - never mind. ___?___ I wrote down the title of this piece over the phone in a hurry and find I can't read my own writing. But I assure you it sounds lovely.

Editor's note: This title is "THE TIBER TWIST.")

THE LONELY PRINCESS. This is music composed specifically by the kind Henry Mancini for the Lonely Princess to stop her feeling quite so lonely, and succeeding.

SOMETHING FOR SELLERS. ChaCha. As this is something for me and nothing to do with anyone else, if you don't mind I'll play it in private. I ChaCha better in private or when standing at a station.

PIANO AND STRINGS. The piano you can hear on this band has actually got strings in it. The one that was used in the film had not. I don't know why they were trying to keep the expense down.

SHADES OF SENNETT. This started life as a tribute to John Shades of Sennet and Co., Inc. I'm sure it has some vague connection with herbs or somebody's old cough remedy.

I've never written record notes before and I'm sure I will never be asked again. The poor fools, they don't know what they are missing.
