HATARI! = "BRING 'EM BACK
ALIVE," might well be the theme of this, by turns hilarious, thrilling
and heart-warming Paramount picture - and of the inspired score by Henry Mancini.
In this memorable re-creation of the musical motifs of the film, Mancini demonstrates
once again that he's at his creative peak in heightening screen action. The Sounds of
Hatari, for example, is a stunning six-minute theme that graphically and unforgettably
highlights the magnificent opening sequence of the picture with it's incredibly realistic - and dangerous - pursuit of the enraged rhinoceros.
Baby Elephant Walk is a deftly comic delight derived from the rib-tickling parade of the multiplying
tiny pachyderms. Night side is an appealing ballad which beautifully
underscores the picture's romantic situations. The delightful Your
Father's Feathers is a hilarious musical counterpart to the film's comic ostrich episode. The Mancini touch that has
already scored in TV with the "Peter Gunn" series and
"Mr. Lucky," and is currently represented in the top
position of the nation's best-selling album charts with "Breakfast at
Tiffany's" score, is once again displayed here. For his musical underscoring and in the "best single song" category
for the latter picture, Mancini was awarded two Oscars in the 1962 Academy Awards.
It's all captured in the album - the colour, the excitement and the thrills. You're on
location in wildest Africa with the inimitable Mancini music.
