The
79th Annual Academy Awards gave an Honorary Award to
Ennio Morricone "for his
magnificent and multifaceted contributions to the art of film
music."
TV Broadcast:
Date of Broadcast : February 25, 2007
Transcription of the segment:
- The sequence starts with The Good, the Bad and the Ugly main
title and Clint Eastwood started saying how wouldn't any actor
appear with that music.
- And he continued saying that he remembered the first time he
heard music by Morricone, he was watching A Fistful of Dollars,
and he heard this fabulous music and then he was surprised to be
in the movie with that music. It was his first movie with a
leading role and the first one of Morricone too.
*
One of the reasons for the success of the movie was the
originality of the music. Since then, Morricone has composed
over 400 film scores on Europe and United States.
- He goes mentioning some of the films he scored for.
- Next, he presents a video montage of some of the films he work
for.
- After finishing the video presentation, Celine Dion performed
the song "I Knew I Love You", which is the theme for "Once Upon
a Time in America", now with lyrics by Alan and Marilyn Bergman.
- Finally, Eastwood gives the Oscar to Ennio Morricone.
- Morricone says "Thank you, thank you. Thank you very much" and
then starts with his speech in Italian.
- After a brief time, Eastwood translates. Between his speech
and the translation, it took about 3 minutes, more or less like
this:
- He thanked the Academy and all the people that really wanted
to give him this award.
- His deep gratitude to the directors that have faith in him,
without them he wouldn't be there.
- His thoughts go out to all the artists that has merits for
this award but never received such honor. He wants that all of
them receive such honor, the same way it happened to him.
- This Oscar is not a point of arrival but a starting point to
continue with the passion and dedication that he had since the
beginning.
- He dedicates this Oscar to his wife, Maria, that has always
been there all these years, with dedication and love.
* Actually not true, maybe a
better research and speediness in the translation would have
been nice.
